Uniendo Hilos / Merging Threads unites artworks made from fabric and thread by nationally renowned artists Arleene Correa Valencia and Antonio Lechuga. These artists emphasize safety, comfort, protection, and family care through stitching and sewing, transforming everyday fabric into something symbolic, beautiful, and magical.

Born in Michoacán, Mexico and based in California, Arleene Correa Valencia makes work about migration that is equally about grief and anxiety as it is about celebration and joy. Her work features family clothing that is handed down and that represents pride and visibility. Correa Valencia stitches together stories of love, compassion, and protection.

Dallas-based Antonio Lechuga makes collaged work out of cobijas—utilitarian fleece blankets. Cobijas are household objects, placed on couches and beds, that hold powerful stories and emotions. Whether he is depicting a local storefront, a quinceañera dress, a gate that keeps us out or in, or a landscape, Lechuga embeds comfort and care in his imagery.
